This day we are going to learn how to do Bushcraft, Team Building and Kayaking.
Group 1 is the first to go to Kayaking, Group 2 is going to learn how to Bushcraft and
Group 3 is doing Team Building.
But before we do the activities we had to have our breakfast after we ate, Chris called out the things that we need for the activities, Group 1 is going to need synthetic clothes, Group 2 needs gumboots, and a raincoat and Group 3 will need warm clothes because it's and raining.
While Group 1 did kayaking, Group 2 and 3 stayed at the campsite doing their activities. Group 2 went with Chris to learn how to make a fire from scrap, we first went to pitch a tent learned how to knot properly, we learnt how to pitch a tent with ropes and sticks. After we pitched the tents we gathered around Chris to talk about he we placed our tent, Chris said to never put fire inside your tent especially if it is windy. We followed him to the trees, he talked about the difference between the Kanuka tree and the Manuka tree, when you touch the Kanuka trees leaf it is soft but when you touch the Manuka it is a bit spiky, we then looked at the tea tree and Chris said that is good to use if you make a fire for survival or to keep you for warm.
It's not good to use sticks or twigs from the ground because if it is raining it won't make a fire. We collected sticks to make fire, we collected twigs to make fire, I learnt it is better to use dead sticks because it's easy to make fire with, you will find out the stick is dead if it has clean snap and it's not green in the inside.
We went back to the shelter to make a fire. We placed our sticks and twigs down and Chris got a metal barrel, one person from Group 2 handed Chris some twigs to put in the metal barrel, Chris grabbed the matches in his pocket, he lights it up and carefully placed it down, it didn't work because the sticks might have been a tiny bit wet and alive still, we tried to use dry grass, I lighted up the matches and thorough placed it down, it lighted up a little bit but then Chris pulled something out of his pocket, it was a tissue, he grabbed a couple of tissues and ripped it and scrapped it, as he placed it down he picked Maya to light the matches and place it down, it starts to burn, Chris ordered some people to go and get the tent and while me, Kalotia and Villami M fan the fire, Chris grabbed wood and showed us how to fan the fire, while we were fanning it, the fire was getting bigger and hotter. Next Chris blew the fire, he told us not to blow it hard or the fire will go out.
Chris walked through the rain to the common room to bring the chocolate powder so we can make hot chocolate milk he also brought a tin can with water in it. He placed the tin can with the water on the fire to boil. After the water boiled we brought it on the table to put the chocolate powder in, we stirred it and we grabbed cups and tasted it, it tasted a little bit of water so we added all of the chocolate powder in and we stirred it again and tasted it again and it tasted so much better.
We raced to the common room get dry, the first group the went to kayaking are back, Group 2 is their turn to go kayaking. They rushed to their cabin to get their towel for kayaking, they walked to the bus and hopped on, we first did the headcount before we go on the road to go to the beach. The weather was not very wonderful and not a good day the go kayaking, Mrs Raj told us to pray for the rain to stop. We arrived at the beach, we saw Magnus there we also saw the kayak, we were so excited to go and try kayaking for the first time, but how can we? With the climate like this. We were told to wait 20 minutes for the heavy rain to stop. 20 minutes went by the rain hasn't still stopped so waited 10 more minutes and it still hadn't stopped. Mrs Raj promised us we can just go swimming in the pool. So we returned to the campsite and enjoyed our time swimming, the pool was very cold though but we still enjoyed.
