Responding to Refugees

Refugees by Brian Bilston

They have no need of our help

So do not tell me

These haggard faces could belong to you or me

Should life have dealt a different hand

We need to see them for who they really are

Chancers and scroungers

Layabouts and loungers

With bombs up their sleeves

Cut-throats and thieves

They are not

Welcome here

We should make them

Go back to where they came from

They cannot

Share our food

Share our homes

Share our countries

Instead let us

Build a wall to keep them out

It is not okay to say

These are people just like us

A place should only belong to those who are born there

kumara and their many inventions.

They won many awards for

contributing. Joe earned the Queen’s

medal.  In 2013 they won the

Bledisloe cup for their service

to horticulture. Joe referred to

himself as an experimenter not a

scientist. People could call them

“citizen scientists”.

When the Black Rot disease spread,

Mr and Mrs Gock gifted their

disease resistance to New Zealand.

They refused to take the money

that the Government gave them.

People also made documentaries

about how they saved the kumara

from the Black Rot disease. 

Joe and Fay went through

many problems together but solved it

together. They invented stickers on fruit

and the broccoli box. They investigated

and they collected evidence. They had many

ups and downs but they kept trying until they

figured out the solution to the problem.

Mr and Mrs Gock were married in

1956 and had three daughters Jayne, Raewyn and

Virginia. Fay suddenly died from an illness back

on 21 December 2018. We will remember your

service Fay Gock.

What to do when you're scared, worried or nervous

Today I read an article about “What to do when you’re scared, worried or nervous”. 

What to do:

Nervous or scared

If you’re nervous take a deep breath and count to five. This will help you calm down. Think of something that will distract you from being nervous or such as: thinking about the forest or you looking up at the sky, the clouds. Close your eyes and imagine your in a forest, you hear birds tweeting, leaves rustling. Focus on what’s happening now. Not what will happen tomorrow.  

Worried

Talk to someone you trust and talk about how you feel. If you can and want to, try do meditation. Close your eyes, inhale and exhale, hear and imagine. 

     

Relax

You need to relax. Relax you muscles, relax your whole body. 

If you don’t know:

• Breath and count to five. Breathing is one of the best exercise to do.

• Write down your thoughts in a book. If you can, buy a diary write about how you feel.

• Connect to nature. Go for a nature walk, look and hear.

• Write down what you’re grateful for. 

I hope this will help you when you are scared, worried or nervous. Do mindfulness.

Learning different ways to start a senctence

Today, Room 7 learned many ways to start a sentence. Room 7 watched a video about ways to start a sentence. 

Here are my two senteces
1. My cousin Ellen sang on stage!
2. Seeing my old friends made me happy.

On my first sentence I started with subject and verb. The subject is Person, place, thing and idea. A subject is followed by a verb. A verb is a doing thing. And my second sentence started with ING, now I know how to start my writing.

The sleepover

STORY:
You invited your friend Jayden,Clora,Louis,Claudia on a sleepover and they said yes. Should you invite them on Sunday or Saturday?

Narrative The cliff

The Cliff

On a Saturday morning, a girl name Lizzie was getting ready for hiking with her brother Max.They are going to climb the huge and tall Mountain, the name of the Mountain is Mt Eden.

So Lizzie woke up very early to go hiking she woke up at 7:20, She get her bag, put her water bottle, snacks,fruit, rope or swiss army knife.Max also done the same thing, then they grab their socks and shoes and head there way outside,Lizzie said”Mom me and Max is going hiking”.

Mom replied “okay honey, did you bring all the stuff you need”.

“Yes mom, bye”.

Max and Lizzie is of their to go to Mt Eden.

“Finally we have arrived to Mt Eden, now let's go and start hiking”. Lizzie said cheerfully.

Max said “okay, but don’t get too over excited because it's a long way up”.

So Max and Lizzie start hiking up the Mountain, as soon as they were almost at the top Lizzie slipped down and now she is holding onto a small branch that is hanging out. Lizzie shouted”help me Max”.

Max couldn’t reach her because Lizzie is a bit out of reach of Max to grab and pull.

”it's alright, here’s what we're going to do, I’m going to get a rope and you grab it and i’ll pull okay”.Max said calmly.

Lizzie shouted with crying”okay, but just make sure that i'll be alright”.

Lizzie grabbed the rope and Max pulled the rope up.

Lizzie said”thanks Max, your the best big brother ever”.

“Should we continue on”.said Max.

“Yes”.Responded Lizzie.

So they continue walking, then they finally reached the top.

“Yes”They both said

Max is on the phone and talking to dad if he can pick them up.

Dad said “yes I’ll be right there in a minute”.

Lizzie grab snacks because she was really tired of the hiking.

Lizzie, Max and Dad are finally at home, Lizzie went to her room looking so sleepy, Max asked “hey, dad can we go hiking next time as a family please”.

“Okay”dad replied.

When Lizzie fall of a cliff good thing Max also bring  rope, and next time they are going on a hiking as a family altogether.

It was a breezy cold Sunday morning at 7:45 Yelnats was driving his shiny red Ferrari car and at 8:05 he picked his phone to call Jayden that he was on his way, then KABOOM!!!!, he didn’t see the car in front of him, he was driving to fast on the mountain road and he flipped his car over by an accident.

He was driving to fast and he didn’t see the car in front of him so because of the energy and the fast of his car he flipped over by driving to fast. He broke his arm and had a brain damage and his ears was ringing. The people in the car going to see what happened and one of them called the 111 to help him. People are shouting what is going on and a lot of beeping noise from the back, shut up come and help here with him.People are asking him are you okay,and he just kept silent.
Solution

Luckily one of the people called 111 to help, they are arriving soon, just wait 5 mins, when they arrived the police said to move and we will fix this. The firefighters got out the Jaws of Life and carefully cut the shiny beautiful Ferrari car to get the passenger out of the car and put him in the ambulance.When they got to hospital they quickly put him on a stretcher and roll him to the emergency room, and they grabbed tools to fix his arm and xray his brain.He survive, the doctors called Yelnats parents to come to the hospital.
Conclusion
Less than 5 sentences
He is in the hospital getting better, his car was cutted but at least he survived.

What is the sun?

The sun is a star that is part of our solar system. The sun sits at the centre of the solar system, it is orbited by 8 planets which rotate at the same time. The sun is the biggest part of our solar system, but it’s small compared to other suns in other systems. The sun does not move because it’s a star.

What is the sun made of?

The sun is made of energy. The sun produces energy, called solar energy which can be used to power homes on Earth. The core is the hottest part of the sun, it is 27 million degrees F*/15 million degrees C*. It’s made of Hydrogen gas which is sometimes known as Hg.

What does the sun do?

The sun produce 2 things it is light and heat for our solar system.It takes 8 mins for the solar energy to reach Earth. If the sun disappeared earth will be just a frozen ball and total darkness, your shadow in the morning it faces west, in the Egyptian times the Egyptians know what time by looking at the sun.

Yesterday 21st of March room 7 did some craft it is called the paper mache, we made it with newspaper, water with glue. We made map of MT Wellington and the river also the hills. We have to make it stand and a bit tall.Then my group was finish and Miss Ashley said that we will paint it tomorrow.Then we had free time because we got nothing to do. We had lunch and come back and went to to sumdog. I like to do the 3d cannonball.
