Roast chicken

Kalo and I cooked roast chicken by ourself among the following instructions.
Mrs Heka has instructed us to complete each job in pairs.
Person 1:
  • Get the vegetable on the counter - Tomato, potato, garlic, onions and carrots
  • Get the oil 1 tablespoon
  • Get the pepper and salt
Person 2:
  • Take the mixed herbs - two teaspoon
  • Take the raw chicken - four chicken legs
  • Bring the sweet and chilli sauce - 2 tablespoon
Kalo sliced and diced the vegetables while I cleaned the chicken.
After that I combined the salt and pepper, sweet and chilli sauce
Kalo grabbed a tray and there I laid the chickens. I gave the tray
with the marinated chickens to Mrs Heka's table.
We now have to wait for a couple of minutes for the chicken to roast a bit.
After a while I picked up our roast chicken from Mrs Heka's pantry,
I placed the tray with chicken down on our cooking area and added the vegetables.
We gave the trays back to Mrs Heka and she put in the oven,
we waited in the common room for our roast chicken to cook.
IT'S DONE!!!! everyone walked to there cooking station,
Mrs Heka gave us our roast chickens, we shared the chickens and placed it in our plate. We had a lovely time eating our delicious chicken.

Captain Blackhearts Treasure map

Today I learnt how to solve this maths problem and the answer is (3,3) Read the question
Captain Blackheart buries his treasure but loses his
treasure map! But all is not lost.
His trusty crew remember different bits of the map.

"I remember drawing it with 5 squares each way,'' says the Captain.
"There was a row of three trees running due East from the square (1,1)",
Peg Leg Pete says. "You put each one of them on a different square."
"Weren’t there four granite boulders going due South from (5,5)?" John asks.
"I think you put one of them each in a square too."
"Ah!. Now I remember!" yells the Captain.
"I buried the treasure halfway between the first rock and the most western tree!"
Where is the treasure? (3,3)

Day 2 - September 10 2019

This day we are going to learn how to do Bushcraft, Team Building and Kayaking.
Group 1 is the first to go to Kayaking, Group 2 is going to learn how to Bushcraft and
Group 3 is doing Team Building.
But before we do the activities we had to have our breakfast after we ate, Chris called out the things that we need for the activities, Group 1 is going to need synthetic clothes, Group 2 needs gumboots, and a raincoat and Group 3 will need warm clothes because it's and raining.

While Group 1 did kayaking, Group 2 and 3 stayed at the campsite doing their activities. Group 2 went with Chris to learn how to make a fire from scrap, we first went to pitch a tent learned how to knot properly, we learnt how to pitch a tent with ropes and sticks. After we pitched the tents we gathered around Chris to talk about he we placed our tent, Chris said to never put fire inside your tent especially if it is windy. We followed him to the trees, he talked about the difference between the Kanuka tree and the Manuka tree, when you touch the Kanuka trees leaf it is soft but when you touch the Manuka it is a bit spiky, we then looked at the tea tree and Chris said that is good to use if you make a fire for survival or to keep you for warm.

It's not good to use sticks or twigs from the ground because if it is raining it won't make a fire. We collected sticks to make fire, we collected twigs to make fire, I learnt it is better to use dead sticks because it's easy to make fire with, you will find out the stick is dead if it has clean snap and it's not green in the inside.

We went back to the shelter to make a fire. We placed our sticks and twigs down and Chris got a metal barrel, one person from Group 2 handed Chris some twigs to put in the metal barrel, Chris grabbed the matches in his pocket, he lights it up and carefully placed it down, it didn't work because the sticks might have been a tiny bit wet and alive still, we tried to use dry grass, I lighted up the matches and thorough placed it down, it lighted up a little bit but then Chris pulled something out of his pocket, it was a tissue, he grabbed a couple of tissues and ripped it and scrapped it, as he placed it down he picked Maya to light the matches and place it down, it starts to burn, Chris ordered some people to go and get the tent and while me, Kalotia and Villami M fan the fire, Chris grabbed wood and showed us how to fan the fire, while we were fanning it, the fire was getting bigger and hotter. Next Chris blew the fire, he told us not to blow it hard or the fire will go out.

Chris walked through the rain to the common room to bring the chocolate powder so we can make hot chocolate milk he also brought a tin can with water in it. He placed the tin can with the water on the fire to boil. After the water boiled we brought it on the table to put the chocolate powder in, we stirred it and we grabbed cups and tasted it, it tasted a little bit of water so we added all of the chocolate powder in and we stirred it again and tasted it again and it tasted so much better.

We raced to the common room get dry, the first group the went to kayaking are back, Group 2 is their turn to go kayaking. They rushed to their cabin to get their towel for kayaking, they walked to the bus and hopped on, we first did the headcount before we go on the road to go to the beach. The weather was not very wonderful and not a good day the go kayaking, Mrs Raj told us to pray for the rain to stop. We arrived at the beach, we saw Magnus there we also saw the kayak, we were so excited to go and try kayaking for the first time, but how can we? With the climate like this. We were told to wait 20 minutes for the heavy rain to stop. 20 minutes went by the rain hasn't still stopped so waited 10 more minutes and it still hadn't stopped. Mrs Raj promised us we can just go swimming in the pool. So we returned to the campsite and enjoyed our time swimming, the pool was very cold though but we still enjoyed.

Day 1 of Camp - Monday 9 September

Today is the day Room 7 goes camping,
We first went to school and loaded our bags in the bus, we then walked inside
the bus and there we met Mikey, he is the bus driver, waved our parents bye and hit the road.
We played remix music, while we are on the road we saw awesome views of the sea and the mountains.
After three hours
of sitting on our seats, we finally stopped at Whangarei to have a quick bite for
20 minutes and we then we are back on the road to go to the next stop.

We then entered the Waitangi Treaty grounds, there we met two very kind man.
They welcomed us and introduced themselves,
their names are Chris and Magnus and they are told us they o from Camp adventure for good.
Chris ordered us to go
in a circle to play a game, he explained how to play the game, we have to toss a
tennis ball and introduced ourselves, we passed the tennis ball around and say our
names, and then I got the tennis ball, I first saw my name and then my favourite thing to do.
We met two lovely ladies standing behind us are Whaea Roi and Margery.
Whaea Roi led us near the Marae, she first told us to form a circle and she gave us a sticker and
wrote our name on it.

She then led us to the powhiri, the powhiri was amazing we watched the kapa haka people
perform and it was so cool but before we enter the wharenui we had to take our shoes off.
We followed Whaea Roi to the flags, we learnt about the flags,
New Zealand’s first flag was Te Kara and then the Britsh Union flag,
finally the New Zealand flag.
With walked our way to the museum, we saw the nine pieces of the treaty,
the treaty has not been cared well and it was found underneath
Busby's house while it was there the rats nibbled it.

We went for our next stop which is to see the big waka, the waka is made out of a big tall Kauri tree,
it can fit 120 people in it, Whaea Roi gave us a tiny paper to draw apart on the carvings.
After the adventure, we waved Whaea Roi and Whaea Imagean goodbye and we went back on the
road to go to our last destination which is the Orongo Bay, Holiday Park.

When we arrived at the campsite we saw Chris and Magnus again, we grabbed our
bag from the bus and placed in front of the common room.
Mrs Raj first announced our cabins and our roommates.
\When we are sent to our cabins we placed our stuff down, picked our beds and fixed our bed,
after that, we headed back to the front of the common room.
Chris ordered us to follow him, when are there already,
Mrs Raj announced our groups and the Captains.
We played Orientering while we are in a knot, we needed to find the codes.

Afterwards, we finally finished and went back to the common room to eat dinner,
our dinner was fish and chips with bread( only if you want bread).
The dinner was appetizing, later that we went to our cabins to get our
toiletries and walked our way to the toilets for a three minutes warm shower and brushed our teeth.
We went back to our cabins to sleep for tomorrow,
but some kids stayed up talking and got in trouble. Anyway, we enjoyed our day today.

Genomics

\Genomics
Fill in the blank words. All the answers are in the text.
All living things on earth, from the tiniest creatures to the tallest of trees, are made of Microscopic parts called Cell.

Inside the cell, membrane cells have smaller parts called Organelles.

Vacuoles are basically Storage tanks that the cell uses to hold water or other materials.

Chloroplasts are found only in plant cells and contain Chlorophyll, the substance that allows photosynthesis to take place.

Answer these questions about the text
What is a cell? Cells are the basic structure they are composed of.
What things have cells in them? Animals, plants and humans
What allows photosynthesis to take place? Chlorophyll
What is photosynthesis? The process which green plant use to make their own food
What are shaped like tiny balls but work like tiny factories? Ribosomes
What is an ER? It’s a transportation network
What happens when the plant does not get enough water? Their vacuole will start to shrink and the plants begins to wilt
What are Organelles? It’s like tiny organs and they each do specific jobs inside the cell
What do cell walls do for plants? The cell walls provide support for the plant to keep growing and to keep it in shape, also the cell walls are stronger and tougher than the membrane
What is the powerhouse of the cell? They take food and turn into energy for the rest of that cells use

Today I learnt about Genomics and the blue texts are my answers

Reflections

The skill that I am using for researching is using quotation mark. If you don't put quotaion marks when you are searching you get higher hits, if there is a quotation marks besides the word you will get less hits.

Identify
Keywords means using the only word that will help find what you are searching for. Keywords can help you so much because it doesn't waste your time writing the whole senctence just to find what you are searching.

Where
I used the skill in the Web Res File & Who are you and Where are you going to find what I am looking for. When Mr D told us to use the quotation marks withn the works it really helped me finding the most helpful info I can get.

Describe
(Screenshot) or the impact of the quotation mark.

E.g
See the difference of the two research
Here is two of my search in th Web Res File

Search #8
With quotation marks on the outside
“Cars + cartoon + race + red”

Number of Hits = 79,700,000
Image result for Cars + cartoon + race + red
Without quotation marks

You see there is a lot of number of hits.

Lets see the next one with the quotation marks

Search #10
With quotation in between the words
“Collins” + “rank” + “crimes” + “ solving” + “mysterys” + “book”
Hit #1
Number of hits = 3,250

With quotation marks
See now then the last one. I added quotation marks and it gave me what I am searching for. See the impact of the quotation marks

Explain
The impact is when you put in the quotation marks with the words is it gives less hits, so the internet will only give you what you are searching for.

Yr 7 & 8 Reflection Blog-"key words" _DRL

Key words means to me is the one word that presents what you want to find out so it doesn't need to be a full senctence.

I have learnt that if you put the quotation mark at the end and more words you will have less hits, and I also learnt that robots will take our jobs too.

I am gonna use this skill when I am searching information or pictures. I am also gonna use this in home learning too.

Swimming with Room 7

It has only been the 5th week of swimming and teachers saw a great number of student improve their skills at swimming and some students have learn to swim. Glenbrae students have been learning to swim properly thankfully for our beloved teachers they have helped us a lot at swimming.

Teachers have been helping us and telling us why we need to learn to be safe on water, first of all if you in the middle of the ocean float and swim to the nearest rock, second reason is when you are tired and your in the middle of the deep pool just float on your back to go to the edge of the pool, our teachers have also told us what we need to practice in swimming especially our breathing because some students stops in the middle of the swimming race just to catch his or her breath.

Although some students weren't swimming they are still able to learn with their ears and eyes. Here are some picures of my class learning and improving.

We had a fun time at swimming!!
